01
Pricing & tiers
What are the plans?
Three: Local (free, on-device, forever), Pro (~$20/mo — the minimum paid tier), and Studio (~$49 per seat/mo, for teams). Everything here is self-serve — no sales calls, no custom contracts. These are launch estimates — the Pricing page always has the current numbers.
Do I have to pay to use ClipLogger?
No. Local is the full app — offload, verify, rename, browse, on-device AI logging — free forever, no account, no trial clock.
What do I get with Pro?
Everything in Local, plus bring-your-own-key access to cloud vision models (Fast, unlimited on your key), single-user cloud sync, priority pipeline routing, local HTTP API access, and 150 Rush credits a month included. Top up with credit packs any time.
What's Studio for?
Crews, not soloists. Studio is $49 per seat, and every seat adds 500 Rush credits a month to the shared team pool — 3 seats = 1,500 credits, spendable by anyone on the team. A shared cast/roster/palette that syncs live, and the mesh (every seat a processing-farm node, so idle Macs process footage for free), are coming soon.
02
Speed & credits
What is Rush?
Managed, credit-powered compute — no API key, no model shopping. One click and your directory logs on our massively parallel pipeline: a 1,000-clip directory, logged and filename-suggested, in under 5 minutes.
How do credits work?
One credit, one clip — always. A flat, predictable burn: every clip Rush logs costs exactly 1 credit, always processed at our best quality, no tiers and no surprise multipliers. Length barely matters — a 3-second cutaway and a 12-minute take burn the same (Rush handles clips up to ~15 minutes at launch). Local never touches credits (it's free). Fast spends your own API tokens instead of credits — unlimited on your key. Rush spends credits, 1 per clip.
What will the charge look like on my statement?
LINK.COM* CLIPLOGGER. Payments run through Stripe, who act as the merchant of record for ClipLogger — that is what puts their
LINK.COM* prefix in front of our name, and it is also why sales tax and VAT are handled correctly wherever you are. Receipts and invoices come from Stripe, and you can manage or cancel a subscription from your account page as well. How many credits do I get?
Free includes 25 Rush credits as a one-time trial — no card, no account. Pro includes 150 Rush credits a month, on top of unlimited Fast on your own key. Studio gives 500 Rush credits a month per seat, pooled across the team — plus the mesh (coming soon), so you can process for free on your own Macs.
How do I buy more credits?
Credit packs, purchased in-app or from your account dashboard, that never expire: 100 credits for $12, 500 for $50 (save 17%), or 1,000 for $90 (save 25%). Plan credits roll over and never expire, on every plan.
Is "under 5 minutes" a guarantee?
It's an experience backed by priority routing and massive parallelism, not a money-back SLA — actual time depends on clip count, resolution, and current load. Everything here is self-serve; there's no custom contract to buy a harder guarantee.
What if I run out of credits mid-job?
You're never stuck — drop back to Local (free) or Fast (your own key) any time, or buy a credit pack to keep the managed pipeline running at Rush speed.
03
Bring your own API key
Which plan unlocks bring-your-own-key?
Pro and up. It's the line between Local and Pro — Pro is the minimum tier where you can plug in your own key for cloud speed.
Which models can I use?
Your key routes to cloud vision-language models through our pipeline — we handle prompting, batching, and retries so you're not hand-rolling it yourself. Supported models expand as the field moves.
Who pays for the tokens?
You do, directly to your model provider at their standard rates. Your Pro subscription pays for the pipeline, routing, and priority — not the underlying model usage.
I don't have an API key. Can I still go faster than Local?
Yes — Rush is managed compute with no key required. You pay in credits instead of tokens.
04
Privacy & security
Does my footage ever leave my Mac?
Only if you choose it to. Local never sends anything anywhere. Fast and Rush send frames to cloud vision models by design — that's what makes them fast.
What happens to frames sent to the cloud?
They're ephemeral — used to generate your logging metadata, then deleted. We're not building a library of your footage.
Is anything encrypted?
Yes — encrypted in transit and at rest, any time data leaves your Mac.
Do you train models on my footage?
No. Never. Your clips are not training data, under any plan.
Where does my metadata actually live?
In open .logger.json sidecars (plus XMP) written to your own disk, next to your media — not locked inside an app database you don't control.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep everything. The sidecars are already on your disk in an open format — cancelling stops cloud speed and sync, it doesn't touch what you've already logged.
05
The free tier
Is Local really free forever, or a trial?
Free forever. No credit card, no trial countdown, no feature timer.
Is the free tier crippled to push me toward Pro?
No. Local is the full app — offload, verified copy with MHL manifests, rename, browse, the string-out reel, and on-device AI logging, unlimited. Paid tiers add cloud speed and team features, not withheld basics.
Do I need an account to use Local?
No. Install and go.
06
Accounts & sync
Do I need an account for ClipLogger?
Not for Local. Pro and up need an account for billing, sync, and credits.
What does "sync you can walk away from" mean?
Sync is a convenience layer on top of data that's already local-first. Your metadata lives on your disk whether or not sync is on — so if you ever stop paying or stop syncing, nothing is stranded in our cloud.
If I downgrade from Pro, do I lose my synced work?
No. Your local sidecars stay exactly as they are. Cloud sync stops updating; what's already on your Mac is unaffected.
07
Studio & the mesh
What's the mesh?
Coming soon to Studio. Every seat becomes a processing-farm node: idle Macs across your team pool together and log footage for free, alongside — or instead of — spending Rush credits.
What's LAN mesh?
Pooling compute across your team's own Macs as peers, so processing spreads across hardware you already own instead of sitting idle — no separate server, no deployment project.
Do I need special hardware to use the mesh?
No — it's the Macs your team already has. Any Studio seat can opt in as a mesh node, and idle capacity gets put to work instead of sitting there.
Is there a sales call or a custom contract?
No. Studio, mesh included, is subscribe-and-go like every other plan — no sales calls, nothing to sign.
08
The format
What is .logger.json — and does it write XMP too?
The open sidecar file ClipLogger writes your logging metadata into — tags, notes, subjects, AI reasoning — sitting on disk next to your media. It writes .logger.json alongside standard XMP, so tools that only read XMP still get your metadata.
Which NLEs can read it?
Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut, and Avid all read the metadata back in — log once, cut anywhere.
What if ClipLogger disappears someday?
Your sidecars are already plain, documented JSON and XMP sitting on your own disk. They don't stop being readable if we do.
09
Compatibility & requirements
What platforms does ClipLogger run on?
macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon.
Is Windows or Linux supported?
Not today. ClipLogger is built specifically for Apple silicon Macs — that's the platform bet for now.
Do I need an internet connection?
Not for Local — it's fully offline-capable. Fast, Rush, and cloud sync all need a connection.
What hardware does on-device AI use?
Your Mac's own Apple silicon. Local logging speed scales with your machine — no external GPU, no server.
10
Open source
Is ClipLogger open source?
Not exactly — we'd rather say that plainly than borrow a label we haven't earned. The .logger.json format is fully open and documented; Local is free forever; and the app's source license is still being decided (leaning permissive). We'll announce it once it's settled.
What's actually open — the app, or just the format?
The format, for certain — .logger.json is open and documented, so anything can read or write it and your metadata never depends on ClipLogger surviving as a company. The app's source license is still being finalized (leaning permissive); Local being free forever stands on its own either way.
Why keep the format open?
Same thesis as the privacy stance: your data, your decision, never locked in. An open format is how we make that a guarantee instead of a promise — your logs outlive any subscription, any company.
Still have questions?
We'd rather answer directly than bury it in fine print.
