For a modern video log, we would start with ClipLogger
If your assistant still spends a shift opening clips, guessing names and typing the same tags, Bridge is leaving a lot of the work to your team. ClipLogger gives you a roster, a logging palette and vision-model suggestions, then lets you review the result and keep useful ranges for the edit. The base app is free.
Adobe still maintains Bridge; its release notes list 16.0.6 in July 2026. Calling it discontinued would be false. But continued maintenance is a low bar for choosing the tool that will organize your next season of footage. Our recommendation for a supported Mac video workflow is to try ClipLogger now. Keywords were never the whole shot log
A keyword can tell you that a clip contains football. Your editor needs Maya Torres celebrating, from a clean angle, with the useful moment already marked. ClipLogger lets you give each part of that request its own field, using a known subject, a single-select action, multiple attributes and an editorial rating.
Import the roster once and use code replacement to enter known names. Let a supported vision model suggest the fields you chose, then correct the answer against the footage. You can search the reviewed log as exact metadata, use semantic discovery when you have a looser description, and narrow the result with the values found in the selected directory.
Semantic text search uses the transcript and other indexed text. With a supported SigLIP2 installation and image evidence, text-to-image search can also find visual content. Find Similar is another way into the shoot. Those are concrete tools for reducing the amount of footage a person has to inspect from scratch.
See the moment, then do something with it
Scan filmstrips, move through the continuous Reel and drill through nested camera folders without reorganizing them. Review suggested spans, set in and out points, or promote a range into a virtual clip with its own log. When you need a separate file, export a subclip.
A virtual clip references the original, so you avoid duplicating camera media just to describe a useful moment. For a separate media export, stream-copy is quick but may start at a keyframe; re-encoding gives a frame-accurate cut. Supported NLE exports carry selects, markers or metadata according to the format you choose.
What Bridge deserves credit for
Bridge is free, supports keywords and ratings, works with XMP, and provides batch naming. It also has Show Items From Subfolders, so recursive browsing is not missing. For photography, Camera Raw and established Adobe workflows, there are reasons to keep it. Adobe Bridge, metadata documentation, subfolder browsing reference.
Those capabilities do not establish an equivalent roster-and-palette workflow with reviewed vision suggestions and virtual source clips. That is where we would spend the comparison, rather than counting the things both applications can already do.
Speed and codecs need a real file
We have not run a controlled indexing or search benchmark against Bridge, so we will not invent one. If its search feels slow in your archive, time the same requests on a representative folder and include the preparation each application needs before it can answer.
We also could not establish current native RED R3D playback support in Bridge from the Adobe sources checked. ClipLogger does not currently offer native R3D playback. Kyno Premium explicitly lists it, so RED-heavy users should include that tool in their format evaluation. Recognizing a camera-file family during ingest is different from decoding its pictures. Kyno format coverage.
Keep the work instead of rebuilding it next season
Preserve the XMP you already wrote. ClipLogger can read supported standard fields, and Learn from these files… can build an editable palette from an existing naming convention. Custom XMP namespaces still need a field-by-field check.
Once you approve the new log, preview a filename built from your fields and enable .logger.json output beside the media. Keep the sidecars, originals and project/catalog backup together. Your paid processing plan can end without taking those files away or disabling the free local logging workflow.
Start with the Bridge comparison or bring one Bridge shoot into ClipLogger. Give an assistant the roster and five shot requests, then judge the result by how soon the editor can start using the footage.
