JuiceMount + ClipLogger: your storage, a searchable archive

A useful pairing for footage on your own server, with a clear view of the setup and costs.

Keep the storage. Add the log.

ClipLogger can work alongside the storage you already use. Once your Mac can read the media in a folder, you can browse it, create searchable logs, review subject matches and collect useful ranges for the edit. An SSD on your desk and a reachable server thousands of miles away can both be part of that workflow.

JuiceMount is one way to make your own server accessible as a mounted volume on a Mac. It is an open-source project from Leland Dutcher, ClipLogger’s founder. Its streaming and caching handle file access; ClipLogger adds the logging workbench and native search. JuiceMount project.

Where the footage can live

Your footage How to bring it into ClipLogger
Desktop or attached SSD Open the folder directly
Camera card Browse accessible media; offload and verify a dependable copy before renaming or reusing the card
NAS or remote server over VPN Mount the share, then open the folder; the network must keep the files available
Shade or LucidLink Use an accessible mounted folder or available originals/proxies; check your plan and permissions
Iconik-managed media Open accessible underlying storage or download the media you need; an Iconik catalog is not itself a mounted folder
Your own S3 bucket Use a compatible mounting tool to expose the files; ClipLogger does not directly browse an S3 account
JuiceMount Open the media through its mounted volume after setup

These are file-access approaches, not automatic catalog imports or a certification of every storage provider. Test playback, sidecar writing and rename behavior on a copy. A read-only path may let you browse while preventing writes beside the media.

What JuiceMount costs to run

JuiceMount has no per-seat subscription fee. You provide the storage, server and administration. Its setup uses a server stack and a Mac app; remote access needs a reachable network or VPN. Read its setup guide before treating it as a ready-made hosted service.

ClipLogger’s base app is also free. Local analysis uses your Mac’s memory and processing time. Rush is optional when you want hosted suggestions without running the model yourself. Existing hardware can make this an inexpensive combination; new storage, backups and network service still cost money. ClipLogger plans.

What the combination gives you

Point ClipLogger at a mounted shoot. Build fields for the subjects and details you care about, run suggestions, and review the results. Use text, semantic or visual search to discover footage; use the directory’s visible metadata options to narrow to the right shot.

The log is useful inside ClipLogger every time you search it. Written sidecars, filenames and supported exports also carry useful work outside the app. Keep the project/catalog backed up for records that have not been written beside the media.

Choose the services your team needs

JuiceMount and ClipLogger combine storage access with a Mac logging and search workflow. That does not reproduce every feature of Shade or another hosted media platform: browser access, shared review, administration and managed infrastructure remain separate requirements. Shade comparison.

If your team already gets value from Shade, LucidLink or Iconik, keep it. Add ClipLogger where you want a more useful source log. JuiceMount is another option for people who want to run their own storage.

Start with one mounted folder and one real editing request. Give an old shoot a new life.
