Check Frame.io pricingWhat ClipLogger adds
Start in ClipLogger when your assistant is still identifying people, tagging the shoot and finding useful ranges. You can put that work into a log and NLE handoff before anyone has a rough cut to review. Add Frame.io when clients and collaborators need a shared place to comment on the work.
Search and prepare the source footage before the review link.
Use the roster to name people, the palette to describe the shoot, and suggestions to reduce repetitive typing. Filter the reviewed log, mark a useful range and collect selects in a reel. Your editor gets source decisions before the first review link exists.

From the folder to the edit
Browse nested folders together. Reuse supported XMP values or learn a palette from existing filenames. Name people, items and places, review AI suggestions, then search the log by words, meaning or the values in your directory.
Filmstrips, Reel, markers and virtual clips help you collect useful moments. Write reviewed fields into filenames and sidecars, then export supported selects to your NLE. See the workflow.
What you keep after cancelling
Frame.io supports comment exports. Preserve the relevant version and timestamps with them; a comment export does not recreate the full review project. ClipLogger’s written source log and filenames stay with your archive, and the free base remains usable after Rush ends.
What the full workflow costs
Frame.io already has a free tier, so ClipLogger is not the only $0 option. The advantage is a free source-logging workflow on your Mac, without using cloud storage allowances for the camera archive. Keep paying for review when the collaborators and controls justify it.
ClipLogger’s base app stays free. Local models use your Mac’s memory and time; start a batch overnight to work through an old shoot. Pro is $20/month with 150 Rush credits ($240 over 12 months); one eligible clip uses one credit. Your API requires eligible paid access plus your provider’s usage bill. Plans and submission limits.
Choosing the right combination
You need browser review links, timestamped comments, versions and delivery controls for collaborators or clients.
ClipLogger fits when: You need a free footage workbench for organization, subject lookup, AI-assisted logging and source selection before the cut.
ClipLogger currently requires an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later. It has no hosted video-review portal, and native RED R3D playback is not supported. Format and setup details.
If you use both
Prepare source names, fields and selects in ClipLogger; share the edit in Frame.io. Keep source markers with the source clip and review comments with the correct edit version, because their timestamps can refer to different things.
Try the work on one shoot
What can the assistant deliver before the rough cut is ready?
Log one shoot, collect five ranges and open the handoff in the editor. Then share the resulting cut through Frame.io. Compare whether the editor spent less time identifying source footage, rather than treating the number of review comments as logging work.
Bring your current workflow into ClipLogger. ClipLogger does not recreate Frame.io review links, version stacks or approvals. This guide adds the source workflow beside your existing review process.
