Ask for setup, seats, storage, AI, integrations and export costs. A category estimate would hide those differences.
Check Cloud DAMs pricingWhat ClipLogger adds
Choose ClipLogger when the immediate job is logging camera footage and finding the right source shot. You can build the palette around your production, use local or hosted suggestions, and keep the resulting metadata with the files. An organization-wide DAM becomes relevant when you need governed distribution and access beyond the edit team.
Build a searchable source library on the storage you use.
A restaurant shoot, a season of games or years of interview footage can use the same ClipLogger tools. Name people, items or places, choose the fields that matter, and let a model help describe the clips. Search the reviewed log inside the app and keep written metadata with the files.

From the folder to the edit
Browse nested folders together. Reuse supported XMP values or learn a palette from existing filenames. Name people, items and places, review AI suggestions, then search the log by words, meaning or the values in your directory.
Filmstrips, Reel, markers and virtual clips help you collect useful moments. Write reviewed fields into filenames and sidecars, then export supported selects to your NLE. See the workflow.
What you keep after cancelling
Export support varies by DAM. Obtain a real sample of original media and metadata before deciding what survives cancellation. ClipLogger’s free base and written sidecars give the production team a local record; they do not replace institutional permission or rights enforcement.
What the full workflow costs
Price the production log separately from the institution’s distribution platform. ClipLogger’s base fee is $0 per supported Mac. Existing storage, local compute and optional hosted processing still cost something; a quote-based DAM may be paying for a different audience and job.
ClipLogger’s base app stays free. Local models use your Mac’s memory and time; start a batch overnight to work through an old shoot. Pro is $20/month with 150 Rush credits ($240 over 12 months); one eligible clip uses one credit. Your API requires eligible paid access plus your provider’s usage bill. Plans and submission limits.
Choosing the right combination
The organization needs controlled distribution, brand governance, permissions, portals or rights workflows across departments. Capabilities differ by vendor.
ClipLogger fits when: You want to discover and log source footage across accessible storage, with native search and a free base app.
ClipLogger currently requires an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later. It has no hosted video-review portal, and native RED R3D playback is not supported. Format and setup details.
If you use both
Keep camera footage and its log in the production workflow. Send approved cuts and chosen supporting assets to the DAM, together with the fields that system can receive. Rights restrictions and approval records should remain in the system that enforces them.
Try the work on one shoot
What useful footage is still waiting in the production archive?
Open an older shoot, start a small suggestion batch and look for material worth using again. Pick from the indexed subject names and field values in that directory, then keep a useful range for an edit.
Bring your current workflow into ClipLogger. There is no universal DAM importer. Choose the exact vendor, preserve its export, and map the production fields you need.
